BROOKFIELD, CT — The School Board is inviting residents to help choose a name for the new school. The New School Naming Committee has narrowed the field to five potential names that meet Board of Education Policy 7551. Sources for these name suggestions came from the public forums held last fall, considerations from the Municipal Building Committee, as well as students. The town plans to start construction on its $78.1 million school for grades pre-K to 5 in the spring. The Board of Education discussed the backstory behind each name's rationale at their Dec. 16 meeting. The presentations shown at BOE meetings and to students are available here. The survey, available online here, is not intended to be a public vote on the new school's name and the BOE may not choose the name ranked highest, BOE officials said. "Rather, for those that did not attend the public forums last fall or did not write to the naming committee, this is another opportunity for engagement and the results of this survey will be strongly considered," officials said in an email to families. The BOE will review and share the results of this survey publicly and likely vote on the name at its Jan. 20 meeting.
