LOS ANGELES, CA — A doctor who had many celebrity clients was identified as the hiker who died of a heart attack in a Los Angeles Park last weekend, officials confirmed.
Jay Goldberg, 53, worked as a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology at Cedar-Sinai's Beverly Hills, Fox News reported. The coroner's office confirmed Goldberg was a Los Angeles resident.
Marcellus Wiley, a former athlete who played 10 seasons in National Football League for four teams, tweeted his condolences to Goldberg last week.
"RIP Dr. Jay Goldberg," Wiley said. "He delivered all three of my babies, and safely got me through two indescribably difficult deliveries. He was a gift to so many. Holding my babies extra tight tonight And thanking him for all he has done for me and my family."
Betsy Brandt, "Life in Pieces" and "Breaking Bad" star, tweeted that she was "absolutely heartbroken."
On May 28, firefighters and paramedics were dispatched to 3077 Rustic Canyon Road at 11:39 a.m. to rescue a hiker, according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Two rescuers were lowered to a location at the park and determined that the man was dead at the scene. He died from a myocardial infarction, officials said.
