SANDAG Receives Up To $8M To Replace Pacific Surfliner Bridge

SAN DIEGO, CA — The San Diego Association of Governments received up to $8 million to replace the Pacific Surfliner Bridge as part of a Federal Railroad Administration program, it was announced Thursday. The project will replace the current, timber Pacific Surfliner Bridge 257.2 structure with a concrete bridge along the Los Angeles-San Diego-San Luis Obispo rail corridor, according to a release from the U.S. Department of Transportation. SANDAG and the North County Transit District will provide a 42% match. "The project is expected to maintain safe conditions along the frequently used railway and continue its economic vitality, as this corridor sees significant daily train traffic for intercity, freight, and commuter services," according to the release. The FRA allocated $46.4 million of its Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements grant program funds for rail infrastructure in California. The CRISI program awarded more than $368 million across 46 projects in 32 states. — City News Service
