Seeking Drummer for a New Indie Rock/Jazz Project

Meets

Portland OR

Description

Looking for a drummer who loves indie rock, jazz, funk, etc. to join a new project. I'm a recent PDX transplant from NYC (moved here last year.) I'm starting a new band out here and am specifically looking for a drummer who can bridge the indie rock and jazz genres, and would like to join a new project as a contributor/writer. Songs are partially formed, but you would definitely have the ability to write your own parts, and help shape these songs into fully formed pieces. My influences are primarily indie rock with a heavy jazz influence and a dash of folk. (Lots of Beirut, Andrew Bird, and then Chet Baker, Dizzy Gillespie, Billie Holiday, Thelonious Monk.) I sing and play trumpet; I am more in the Chet Baker camp than in the Miles Davis camp. I sang lead in 2 indie rock/garage bands in New York, and so I really attempt to bridge that gap between indie rock and jazz as much as I can. I'd classify this as an interdisciplinary project, songs will run the gamut, taking the dynamic floor from 0 to 100. The songs are loosely rock structured, Verse 1, Verse 2, chorus, but then diverge with open areas where jazz-like jams/breakdowns occur for a few minutes.   Goals are: -to rehearse weekly (likely Wednesday nights) locally in SE. (We have an hourly space located off SE Powell that has a full kit, baby grand piano, and dope acoustics for a good price. We also have a basement with less space and gear, but it's free!) -to amass a 10-ish song setlist to then take it live to various venues around Portland, primarily those favored by indie bands but also will pursue jazz venues if possible, open to house shows too -to eventually record and release an album -to tour to the album! We are currently myself (vox & trumpet), a guitarist, and a keys player. One woman, two dudes; we are 27-30 years old. Two ex-NYC, one ex-Chicago, new to the PDX scene and excited to meet cool new folks. If this sounds of interest to you, drop me a line! Tell me your name and if you can link to some of your music somewhere, that'd be great. Thanks!
