Description

Downtown Westerly sits directly on the banks of the lower Pawcatuck River and has much reason to honor the River ! The Southern RI Conservation District is teaming up with the Town and a local riverside land owner to host a celebratory community festival event with river-themed activities and information. Cross Rhode Blues plays between 1-4 pm. Hawaiian Shaved Ice truck will be on-site, maybe food too, but there are many fabulous downtown restaurants within walking distance to our event. Some restaurants and businesses are offering product give-aways or special river-themed dishes. At our event, Leave No Trace's RI Chapter will be guiding family activities that illustrate how to lessen our impact on land and water. Trout Unlimited will offer fly-fishing casting and reeling practice. More details on event activities to come. The Conservation District will be showcasing up-coming design plans for Westerly's Resilient Riverfront Renewal project that begins construction in 2023. The event site, adjacent to DEM's boat launch site, is transitioning to a community space for picnicking, food trucks, events, and river views. Come honor this Wild and Scenic River with us and be a part of downtown Westerly's improvements. No registration required. Rain or shine. Event host contact: Renee Stoops, [email protected] The 7 Rivers Festival recognizes the Wild & Scenic status of the Wood-Pawcatuck Watershed in RI and Eastern CT. These waterways were championed by the local community for federal protection and recognition, joining 1% of rivers nationwide with this distinction. Please join our community partners for a weekend of free events and special offers in celebration of these exceptional rivers! 7 Rivers Fest Contact: [email protected]
