Description
"A captivating fever dream that uses music, sound effects, and startling imagery to weave its magical spell." -John Seal, Berkelyside "A stunning and eerie journey into fantasy." -Sydney Film Festival Maryland filmmaker Samuel Tressler IV makes his feature debut with LEDA, a timeless reimagining of the ancient Greek myth of Leda and the Swan. With gorgeous black and white stereoscopic imagery, the film takes the audience on a journey through dreams, nightmares and memory, as Leda tries to make sense of her traumatic past while the world crumbles around her. With no spoken words, the film draws the viewer through the themes of birth, death, divinity and madness. The film was shot on location throughout Maryland, showcasing the grandiose beauty of historic landmarks like Liriodendron Mansion in Bel Air and Strong Mansion on Sugarloaf Mountain, lensed by Cinematographer Nick Midwig. Along with Tressler and Midwig, much of the team are Baltimore graduates of Towson University (Gaffer Grey Adkins, Cam dept. Spencer Grundler, Kady Dulny & Bethany Michalski, G&E team Aaron Sickman, Devin McBay & Kyle Wroe) and Stevenson University (Tressler, Midwig, 2nd AD Zak Seidman). Produced by Clark Kline, founder of Frederick's 72 Film Fest, co-written by Wes Pastorfield of Westminster, and starring a cast from several states with New York based actress Adeline Thery playing the role of Leda. Color was done in Hampton by Matt Riggieri of Digital Cave and Sound Design and Mixing by Matt Davies and the team at Studio Unknown in Catonsville. After a worldwide festival tour that has included the recent Sydney Film Festival, a screening in Agrinio, Greece, the birthplace of the actual Leda, and awards from Austin Arthouse, Another Hole in the Head Festival and Festival of Cinema NYC, Leda returns home to Maryland for its out-of-festival World Premiere. The project was many hard years in the making with a huge support from the local community and we couldn't be more excited to finally bring it home to share on the silver screen of Baltimore's most iconic theater! Q&A with the filmmakers hosted by Chris Reed of Hammer to Nail to directly follow screening.
