Office Manager Stole From Secaucus-Based Company, Police Charge

SECAUCUS, NJ — Secaucus Police say that a woman who worked as an office manager for Firetronics, located on Wood Avenue in Secaucus, stole more than $1.1 million from the company over a three-year period. Firetronics sells fire alarms and sprinklers. On August 28 of this year, a representative from the company reported that he noticed money missing from his bank account from May 22, 2017 through June 30, 2020. He said he saw large sums of money electronically withdrawn from his account. "Detective Aniello Schaffer and Police Officer Sean Egan of the Secaucus Police Detective Division conducted a tedious follow-up investigation over a several month span. In total over $1,100,000 was stolen from the company," said Secaucus police in a press release. A former office manager, Sophia Diakomihalis, was identified as the person responsible for the theft, alleged police. Until recently, she worked at Firetronics for more than eight years. With the assistance from the New York District Attorney's Office, Secaucus police searched Diakomihalis' Brooklyn apartment on Monday, December 28. Police said they found evidence of the crime and Diakomihalis was arrested this same day. She is being held in New York, pending extradition to New Jersey. "The Secaucus Police Department is committed to investigating all crimes that victimize any resident of Secaucus, including commercial businesses," Police Chief Dennis Miller said. Diakomihalis, 35, charged with three counts of second-degree theft [2C:20-3a] and one count of Criminal Attempt to Commit 2nd Degree Theft [2C:5-1/2C:20-3a].
