AMITYVILLE, NY — An Amityville woman was arrested and charged with animal cruelty on Thursday after law enforcement found her four-year-old dog living in an abandoned home with feces and urine, Suffolk County SPCA said.
Lisa Dunn, 56, was charged with one count of animal cruelty, the SPCA said. She was also charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, officials said.
After a joint investigation between the Amityville Police Department and Suffolk SPCA, law enforcement found that Dunn allowed Blue, a Cane Corso blue pit bull mix, to remain in an abandoned home strewn with not just the feces and urine, but also, garbage, spoiled food and insects, the SPCA said.
While being arrested, Dunn was found to be in possession of cocaine, police said.
Dunn is scheduled to appear for arraignment in Amityville Village Court on Monday, officials said.
Anyone who witnesses animal cruelty or neglect in Suffolk County is asked to contact the Suffolk County SPCA at 631-382-7722.
