Here are the top three stories in Philadelphia today: The Philadelphia Department of Health announced the first case of monkeypox has been discovered in Philadelphia. The first case of the current outbreak was confirmed in Britain in May of 2022 and there have since been 19 confirmed cases in America. "The threat to Philadelphians from monkeypox is extremely low," said Health Department Acute Communicable Disease Program Manager Dana Perella. "Monkeypox is much less contagious than COVID-19." (City of Philadelphia)On Thursday night, a fire broke out at a junkyard in Philadelphia's Port Richmond neighborhood. The Philadelphia Fire Department was able to put out the fire by 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Health officials said there is no threat to residents' wellness after the fire, as no toxic compounds were identified at levels that would pose a threat to human health. (Philadelphia Patch)The Philadelphia Phillies have fired Manager Joe Girardi, the team announced on Friday morning. Girardi joined the Phillies in the 2020 off-season and had a 132-141 record with the Phillies. His firing comes after the Phillies had lost 12 of their last 15 games.
