Press release from the Somerset County Government: June 02, 2022 SOMERVILLE, NJ – Somerset County's Board of Elections will conduct in-person early voting for the Democratic and Republican primary elections at six locations spread throughout the County. Eligible Somerset County primary voters can vote at any of the six locations regardless of where they live from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday June 3 and Saturday June 4, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday June 5. There will be no in-person voting on Monday, and on Tuesday, June 7 in-person voters must cast their ballot in their voting district's polling place. "Somerset County voters can be confident that the election processes are safe, secure and accurate for this primary election and all future elections," said Board of Elections Administrator Jerry Midgette. "The recent cyberattack on Somerset County has no impact on election data or voting machines as they are not connected to the County's servers." Voters can still request a mail-in-ballot at Somerset County Clerk Steve Peter's office at 20 Grove Street in Somerville until Monday June 6 at 3 p.m. For the public's convenience the Clerk's office will be open for special hours on Saturday, June 4 from 9 a.m. to noon. Mail-in-ballots must be postmarked, placed in one of 17 ballot drop boxes, or presented to the Board of Elections in Somerville by 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7th. By New Jersey state law, no early, mail-in, or election day ballots may be tabulated prior to the closing of the in-person polls on June 7 at 8 p.m. As a result, the initial results posted to the Clerk's website after the polls close on June 7 do not represent the final election outcome. Mail-in-ballots that are damaged or filled out in ways that cannot be scanned by the Board of Elections have to be hand-tabulated, and mail-in-ballots postmarked by 8 p.m. on June 7 and received by June 13 must be accepted and added to the count. Eligible voters for the 2022 primary must have been registered on or before May 17, 2022 as a Democrat or Republican, or not affiliated with any party. Unaffiliated voters who choose to vote in a primary will be registered with the Board of Elections as a member of that party. Voters who have requested a mail-in-ballot are ineligible to vote in-person on a machine, and should contact the County Clerk at (908) 231-7013 if they require assistance or a replacement ballot.
