Newark Top Cop Says All First Responders Should Get COVID Vaccine

NEWARK, NJ — Newark's public safety director got his COVID-19 vaccine. Now, Anthony Ambrose is urging other emergency responders to do the same. After getting his first dose of the vaccine on Saturday, Ambrose issued a call to action for other local cops, firefighters, EMTs and first responders. "The benefits of protecting the near 1,800 employees I oversee – including police, firefighters and emergency management employees – as well as the community I interact with, made my decision to take the vaccine an easy one," Ambrose said. "I encourage every Newark first responder to do the same," he added. Ambrose was vaccinated through the Essex County Department of Health and rehabilitation along with other public safety leaders. The City of Newark will begin administering vaccines to first responders next week, officials said.
