Oh I see now. So your saying because the breaks on cars sometimes fails no matter how well we build them. Why should we even work on making them better? Or even bother to have them. Look don't get me wrong. A lot of people like guns. I'm one of them. Guns are a tool. They can be a lot of fun. And if push comes to shove it beats the hell out of throwing rocks. But we all don't like the idea of having! to have them. No one wants to live in a world where they have to send an armed guard with their kid to the grocery store. But that's the world we live in and it's not right. The answers are not easy but we do have to do something. Now I'm pretty far left. But let's face it. You can't fix everyone. And you can't crank out enough cops to protect everyone. The ability to protect ourselves. Is the next best answer. That means you have to have weapons that are comparable to what the bad guys are using or at least are enough to get the job done. Although I rarely use a gun these days. I personally would love to have a fully automatic weapon or three. How much fun would that be! Just because you have an 800hp engine in your hotrod. Doesn't mean your going to use it off of the track. We need to put some limits on when, where, and who. And how well everyone is educated about it. Realistically. There's nothing wrong with a bunch of people enjoying their explosives. Under controlled conditions. Out in some gravel pit in the middle of nowhere. As long as the explosives are stored and brought to the site. By people who are licenced to do that. Then they would come like a gun range. Make sure everything was OK. And let you blow up that Ford you don't like.. or if you live far enough away from everyone out in some swamp, like to fish the easy way and leave them at home. But we don't need them or need to let anyone have them at home. But guns are different aren't they. Even if lots of people had explosives at home. And we never knew what was going to blow up next. More explosives won't help us unless we bomb the whole town and hope we get the right one. Guns were designed for personal protection, attacking and advancing situations. And as a deterrent. Situations we often do face in a real world. Your not going to stop crazed people from attacking even if they have to throw tricycles. And it's hard to run up on someone swinging knives at everyone that has to be stopped. A gun works real good here. Bean bag guns, gas ball guns and tasers etc. have very severe limits. Now its a given. If there were no guns. A lot less people would die by guns. And if there were a lot less hammers. A lot less people would die by hammer. But think of the inconvenience. Tools were designed for a reason. Properly used and handled. Their great. But you can't lob a hand grenade into a classroom full of kids. What we need is for the police to have access to a weapon that would have easly resolved the situation. A couple of good burst guns stuck around the corner. And the shooter might get off one or two shots. But they would be driven back into the wall. And you could walk up to them. You can't resolve every shooter situation. And guns aren't always the answer. But I don't care how many laws you pass. It's going to be like trying to stop pot. It's not going to happen. We need to find the best compromise. Trying to take away the semiautomatic weapons is not going to work. It will slow up how many mass shooters use them. But they will just use something else. (Like exosives or a car. So all it really does is make it easier for the police to deal with it. Well duh! Yes we need better controlls. But just give the cops something that gets the job done. That's way faster and more practical than trying to un-arm America. Then make the laws stick. Own or handle a gun wrong. 10 years before you can try to own one again. Second time 10 years in the can. Violent offenders. 10 years in the can before they can get out and apply for a gun. And have to undergo a battery of test. Fail. And 10 more years before you can try to own a gun again period. Use a gun in a crime, own one illegally. 10 years. Then a battery of test. Fail and you. Can leave the country or be shot on sight. Not supported forever unless there are medical reasons. Pass handling and carrying laws that cover all states the same. One set of rules. So no excuses. Everyone learns them. Anyone who violates any of them without extenuating circumstances. Gets 10 years without. Then the test. Let law abiding people. have guns. But make it a hard line. We all have cars. But we don't drive on the sidewalks and kill people. Then revamp our laws about how people should be treated. No matter how different. To cut down on the loners or spot them earlier. Get rid of the hillbilly societies that foster these environments. Let them have freedom of speech but make them responsible to prove it or say it just an opinion. Make it come with a disclaimer that says. These are not proven facts. It just looks that way to me or us. Then prove who "us " is. Or be made to stop. No one should be allowed to yell fire in a movie house. Unless it's on stage or everyone's in on the gag. Or the movie house is on fire. Thats where freedom of speech should stop. People are sometimes wrong. No matter how true it looks to them. People don't always have all of the information. So they make wrong conclusions. Based on what they see and think about it. Which has nothing to do with reality. Then government should never use a military or military style tatctics. Against the people here ever. No matter who does what. Being armed against our enemies. And our government. Is how we got here and stayed here. But we can't all have the same weapons the military does to defend ourselves against them. It's just not practical. I can't afford to keep loaded bombers. In my backyard. (And probably shouldn't have them. )
