This year, of all years, we decided to specifically pay homage to our roots as an African American mortgage lender. I have the honor several weeks ago to walk land my ancestors obtained in the 1890's. For those that don't know, it is quite the humbling experience. We ascend from kings and queens... This holiday embodies so much more than just being a federal holiday many are just discovering. Equity CMG is the embodiment of our ancestors: Madam CJ, Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X, MLK, Jesse Binga... the list goes on. To pay homage to our roots, we decided to do a celebration of life at our office. This is open to all that operate in the space of real estate. From broker to real estate investor. We often don't realize how large of a support system we have for each other. Food and drinks will be catered. Please, by all means, spread the word. We got tired of seeing corporations "celebrate Juneteenth" while not understanding the essence of what it means to all of us. Please take time out of your day to celebrate our collective achievements for Juneteenth. Juneteenth's commemoration is on the anniversary date of the June 19, 1865, announcement of General Order No. 3 by Union Army general Gordon Granger, proclaiming freedom for enslaved people in Texas,[9] which was the last state of the Confederacy with institutional slavery.
