Press release from the City of Jacksonville:
June 03, 2022
The City of Jacksonville's Military Affairs and Veterans Department joins Northeast Florida Women Veterans, Inc. to celebrate Women Veterans Recognition Week, now in its ninth year.
"Women veterans have played an integral part in protecting this country alongside their male counterparts, and have made immeasurable contributions," said Mayor Curry. "I encourage all citizens to recognize the courage, honor, and dignity with which women have served and continue to serve in Jacksonville." This observance, founded in 2013 by the Northeast Florida Women Veterans, Inc.'s CEO and Jacksonville native, Dee Quaranta, was created to celebrate the accomplishments of women veterans, especially the trailblazers who served during the WWII and Korean War eras. The week also brings community awareness to some of the challenges women veterans face after military service. Ceremonies and activities will take place throughout the week, including a display of uniforms in the City Hall Atrium. This year, for the first time, Jacksonville will host a statewide women veterans conference and health and benefits resource in partnership with the Florida Department of Veteran Affairs. The week will close with a gala to honor the women who paved the way for women veterans' issues and to recognize women veterans who are working tirelessly in their communities.
