TOWSON, MD — Friday is National Gun Violence Awareness Day. To raise awareness about gun violence, people nationwide wore orange, the color used by hunters. A proclamation declaring June 3 as National Gun Violence Awareness Day in Baltimore County was read during a program from 11 a.m. to noon on Friday at the Baltimore County Courthouse at 400 Washington Avenue in Towson. "We will honor those killed and wounded by gun violence with a display of 107 hearts representing the average number of firearm deaths in Baltimore County in a year," organizers from Baltimore County government said in a statement. A selfie station was set up for those who wanted to take their picture in orange gear, and the Baltimore County courthouse will be illuminated orange all weekend. This weekend, from June 3 to June 5, events taking a stand against gun violence will be held around the country as part of Everytown for Gun Safety's Wear Orange weekend.
