UNIONDALE, NY — A threat was made against a Uniondale middle school on social media, prompting a police presence at the school Thursday.
In a letter the district posted online Wednesday evening, it said it was made aware of an anonymous threat against Turtle Hook Middle School that was made on social media. The district alerted the Nassau County Police Department, which started an investigation.
As a precaution, there were officers stationed outside the middle school today.
"We are all heart-sick over the tragic and senseless violence that has taken place throughout thecountry in public schools," Uniondale Superintendent Dr. Monique Darrisaw-Akil wrote in the district's letter. "These threats have no place in our communities."
Uniondale is not the only Long Island community which has faced threats against its schools since the shooting in Uvalde, Texas. News 12 reported that Nassau County police are currently investigating a threat made against Division Avenue High School in Levittown. And a student at Westbury High School was arrested and charged with making terroristic threats after he threatened violence against the school, Nassau police said.
