BETHEL, CT — The National Merit Scholarship Corporation has announced its third round of 2022 scholarship winners, and a Bethel student has made the list. According to a news release, homeschooled student Samantha Stone received a National Merit University of South Carolina Scholarship. Her probable career field is computer science.Students included in this round were chosen by officials at the college or university they plan to attend, and were picked from a list of 2022 National Merit Scholarship finalists who have enrolled in their institution. Though officials didn't specify the amount of money each student will receive, the awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the school offering the scholarship. Samantha is one of a group of about 7,500 high school seniors who will receive National Merit Scholarships for college undergraduate study worth nearly $28 million. Earlier this spring, NMSC announced winners of corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards and National Merit $2,500 Scholarships. The third and final round of Merit Scholarship winners — who will also be recipients of college-sponsored awards — will be announced on July 11.
