TINLEY PARK, IL — A police chase last week ended in a Calumet City man arrested after officers said he tried to steal over $500 in jewelry and clothes from Kohl's. According to police, 45-year-old Markas Bowden was seen leaving the Kohl's at 7500 West 191st Street last Wednesday, May 25 at around 3 p.m. As Bowden was leaving, police said an officer was responding to the store after being called about a retail theft. When Bowden saw the officer's squad car, officials said he immediately turned around and went back into the store to try and return the items he was carrying. When a worker asked Bowden to provide a receipt for the items, a witness said he dropped the bags on the floor and ran from the store. In a written statement, Tinley Park police said the officer saw Bowden run from the store and throw two bracelets out of his pockets. The officer chased Bowden in his squad car and eventually arrested the Calumet City man. Police said Bowden is facing a felony charge of retail theft and that the items he was carrying totaled $610 in stolen merchandise.
