TINLEY PARK, Ill. — Tinley Park police officers have arrested two teenagers from Tennessee who were found in possession of handguns in a parking lot in the 18600 block of West Creek Drive.
The arrests of Deandrae M. Rogers Jr., 18, and an unidentified 17-year-old male driver were made on May 24 after police found the weapons in a vehicle in which the teenagers were inside.
Rogers was charged with felony aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. He was taken to the Will County Adult Detention Facility, according to a press release issued by the Village of Tinley Park on May 31. The 17-year-old was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and taken to the juvenile detention center.
"Police said an officer was doing a regular patrol of the parking lot at 11:19 p.m. when he saw two people sitting in a black 2016 Chevrolet Traverse with Tennessee license plates," the press release stated. "When the officer approached the car to investigate, he saw the occupants were smoking marijuana. As the officer knocked on the window to get their attention, he noticed the passenger had a Glock handgun on his lap. The officer immediately drew his weapon, pulled open the driver's side door and ordered the occupants to put their hands on the dashboard while he called for backup."
During the search, police found a second handgun. Both guns and the vehicle belonged to the driver's father, who police stated was in a Tinley Park hotel room when the incident occurred, according to the press release.
