At the time of publication, police did not respond to Patch's request for comment regarding what type of arrests were made. During the enforcement period administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation using federal highway safety funds, Plainfield police's main focus was on citing drivers who didn't buckle up. "While Illinois' 2021 seat belt compliance rate was 93.5%, unbelted occupants still account for over half of those killed in traffic crashes," police said in a news release. "The 'Click It or Ticket' campaign aims to change the behavior of the millions of people who don't buckle up." If more drivers buckled their seat belts while on the road, police said "thousands of lives could be saved each year."
