Description

Join us for the Austin screening of PRAY AWAY, the Netflix documentary that explores the narratives of former leaders and a survivor of the “conversion therapy” movement who speak out about its lasting harm and its devastating persistence. While over 20 states have passed legislation to protect LGBTQIA+ youth from the harmful practices associated with “conversion therapy”, the fight to achieve similar success in Texas continues. The screening will be followed with a panel discussion featuring survivors of "conversion therapy", mental health experts, LGBTQIA+ advocates, and faith leaders who will reflect on the themes of the film as well as propose a way to end conversion therapy, in all its forms, once and for all. Come learn, reflect, connect and consider what moving change forward looks like in your context. This event is being hosted by Multitude Films, the Texas House LGBTQ Caucus, State Representative Celia Israel's Office, First Baptist Church of Austin and First United Methodist Church of Austin. Co-sponsors include: Equality Texas, Human Rights Campaign, National Association of Social Workers-Texas, Texas Freedom Network, Transgender Education Network of Texas, The University of Texas at Austin Center for Women's & Gender Studies and The University of Texas at Austin LGBTQ Studies.
