Here are the top stories in San Antonio today: Now that summer is here, it's time for fun in the sun! Although there's lots to do in town, with the summer heat and the "kids out of school," sometimes "it can be hard to brainstorm fun ways to spend your down time." No need to worry, though! To help you plan, please see a list of 25 local summer activities for you and the kids by visiting: (San Antonio Current) Summer is the perfect time to "add a furry friend to your family," and since there are so many pets looking for families in town, it won't be hard to find a cuddly, four-legged friend! Various animal shelters in San Antonio have pets "available for adoption... and many of them are located within driving distance." Now, if you're not sure yet that you want to adopt, you may consider fostering a pet until its placed with a family. Whatever you decide, check out a list of animals for more information or start the adoption process by visiting: (San Antonio Patch) Saagar Shaikh, 35, graduated from The University of Texas in San Antonio (UTSA) in 2011 with a business degree, but he already knew that the "degree he was earning wouldn't factor into his future." He said, "I knew I didn't like what I was doing in school. It was just so boring." As he thought of what to do in life that "he would enjoy," suddenly he said to himself, "What if I became an actor?" Today Shaikh "is part of the main cast of the newest Disney+ miniseries 'Ms. Marvel,' which debuts Wednesday, June 8." (San Antonio Current) After a historic "first-ever spell-off" on Thursday, June 2, 14-year-old Harini Logan from San Antonio became the winner of "the 2022 Scripps National Spelling Bee!" During the event, Harini and 12-year-old Vikram Raju, who were tied, spelled as "many words they could correctly spell within 90 seconds." In the end, Harini spelled 21 words correctly, while Vikram got 15 words right. As winner, Harini "received a trophy and a check for $50,000." She said, "I think honestly so surreal, it's my fourth time at the Bee... This is such a dream, this is my fourth bee and I'm just so overwhelmed."
