LONG VALLEY, NJ — In recognition of National Gun Awareness Day, the Washington Township Police Department will hold an active shooter awareness presentation at Police Headquarters. The presentation will be held at 1 East Springtown Road in Long Valley on Tuesday, June 14 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Lt. Chris Bratus will deliver the presentation, which will be similar to what they have done in the past and is a topic of extreme importance right now, according to police. "In general the presentations, primary purpose is to help people develop a mindset and some basic skills to hopefully increase their chances of surviving should they ever encounter an active shooter situation. We discuss, in general terms, what a police response would look like from their side of the situation and things they can do to help us," Bratus said. Due to the nature of the material covered by police, the presentation is only open to those over the age of 18. "We limit it to people 18 and older because there is some graphic content and some of the concepts used in a corporate environment or in a store would be different than schools use so we don't want to create confusion," Bratus said. Anyone who has seen this before understands what a fantastic program it is, as well as the valuable information, stories and advice that is shared, according to police. To reserve your spot, email Chief Jeff Almer as soon as possible since seating is limited.
