Laguna Beach Named Most Water-Wise City For 7th Straight Year

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — For the seventh consecutive year, Laguna Beach residents have stepped up and helped their hometown clinch the title for the "Most Waterwise City" as a part of the 2022 Wyland National Mayor's Challenge for Water Conservation. With water quality and shortages being at the forefront of the nation's priorities, participating residents pledged to reduce water waste over the next year by more than one billion gallons. Residents around the nation made 334,603 pledges to change behaviors ranging from fixing home leaks to reducing harmful runoff into local rivers and streams. Laguna Beach and Sacramento were the only cities in the Golden State to make the national rank. The campaign also asks resident nominate a deserving charity in their community to receive a 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid XLE. "Tackling large issues like water quality and scarcity at the local level is an important part of developing sustainable communities," Kevin Butt, general manager environmental sustainability at Toyota Motor North America, said in a statement. "Toyota is proud to be part of this partnership." Residents living in winning cities will be entered into a drawing for thousands of dollars in water-saving or eco-friendly prizes, including $3,000 toward their annual home utility bill, home irrigation equipment from The Toro Company, gift cards for online shopping at Hobie Surf Shops, and eco-friendly bathroom hand soaps from Petal, a city news release said.
