Press release from The Hoboken Historical Museum: June 3, 2022 We've programmed a full month of PRIDE-themed "Hoboken Talks" online interviews, starting with local legend and national treasure Randy Wicker. And we've got a full day of LGBTQIA+ events, with community meet-n-greets and Queer Cinema curation on Sunday, June 5. Join us online Thursday, June 2 at 7pm at our channel on YouTube when we kick off our PRIDE month with legendary gay rights activist Randy Wicker. Hassan Khan hosts this live-streamed event. In Vogue UK, 2021, Randy said, "From the beginning, I believed in publicity and discussion as a means to change attitudes." The museum is thrilled to provide the audience. Longtime Hoboken resident Randy Wicker began working for gay rights as a student in Austin, TX in the mid '50's. He will share stories and images of the numerous, ground-breaking contributions he's made over his 60 years of activism. Randy met transgender activist Marsha P. Johnson in 1973. They became roommates in 1980 and were close until her untimely death in 1992. Since 2009, he has been documenting and participating in the Radical Faerie communities in Tennessee and New York. Then, join us at the Museum on Sunday, June 5 at 1301 Hudson for a full day of connecting with and celebrating the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Trans Queer Intersex and Asexual community, and communities. Our 3 special events are a co-production of the Museum with the Thomas Edison Film Festival and Hudson Pride Center, with thanks to the Hoboken Business Alliance. Admission is free, donations are much appreciated. From noon to 5:00, join us in the Shipyard Passageway where local orgs and vendors will be set up to share info and talk about their presence in the community. Meet: Hudson Pride Center, The Hoboken Library and Hoboken Rainbow Family. Meet Rolando Nieves and Nicole Pometti, the queer, Latinx filmmaker hosts of the podcast "Remakes, Reboots ad Revivals" which explores Hollywood's obsession with "unoriginality." Meet local artisans and many more folks.... it promises to be a grand event! From 4:00 to 5:00, attend a wine and cheese meet-n-greet indoors. It's a mixer community event to see old friends, and make new ones. From 5:00 to 6:00, The Thomas Edison Film Festival will present a special curation of queer cinema from the TEFF collection, featuring a Q&A with filmmaker David De la Fuente and festival director Jane Steuerwald. We'll be screening his film, "Compositions for Understanding Relationship." David De la Fuente is an animation artist with interests in the moving image, aesthetic theory, semiotics, and graphic design. His work has explored themes of loss, queerness, and romanticism. His films have been shown at festivals and screenings around the world. Currently, David is based in New York where he continues to play with the relationship between the digital image and its consumer. Also showing: Anniversary – Narrative - 5 min. by Chantel Huston, North Hollywood, CA, US. I Want to Make a Film about Women – Documentary - 12 min. by Karen Pearlman, Sydney, Australia.
