ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving domestic battery, harassment, trespassing, a scam, damage and theft. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports: Domestic battery Police responded to a domestic disturbance about 5 p.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of East Crestview Avenue. The suspect was determined to be the initial aggressor, and the victim was acting in self-defense. Both suffered visible injuries in the fight. The suspect was taken to Elmhurst Hospital. Charges are pending. Harassment An employee at Chipotle Mexican Grill, 139 N. York St., told police Tuesday that someone had been following her around school and now to her place of work. An officer spoke with the suspect, who agreed to end further contact with the Chipotle employee. The employee was given information on obtaining an order of protection. Trespassing Eric T. Oneal, 28, of Wheaton, was cited about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mariano's, 678 N. York St., on a charge of trespassing. According to a police report, Oneal refused to leave the store after being asked three times. He was seen selling candy to customers. He was released on bond and given a no-trespass notice. Scam A resident in the 1000 block of Elm Creek Drive told police that someone claiming to be from Amazon emailed him Monday. The suspect convinced the resident to buy three Target gift cards. After sending the gift card information, the victim realized it was a scam and contacted his bank. Virtually any transaction requiring gift cards as payment is a scam. Damage An officer saw graffiti scrawled on multiple floors of the parking deck at 149 N. Addison Ave. The damage was done about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. A fire extinguisher was missing from its case. Theft A resident in the 600 block of North West Avenue told police Tuesday that a bank envelope containing money was missing after a person visited his home. The resident believed the suspect was someone to whom he has lent money in the past. He has not been repaid. Identity theft A resident in the 200 block of North Ridgeland Avenue told police Wednesday that someone used his personal information to open a Comcast Xfinity account. An investigation is pending. Fugitive driver An officer tried to stop the driver of a white Infiniti M35 for tinted windows shortly before midnight Wednesday. The driver sped away south on Church Road toward Lake Street. The car was later discovered to be a suspect vehicle in catalytic converter thefts in the area. Driving violations Derrick McCollum, 23, of Cicero, was cited about 1 a.m. Wednesday at Prospect and Eggleston on charges of no valid driver's license, improper lighting and driving an uninsured vehicle. He was released on bond. Miguel Mendoza, 30, of Chicago, was cited about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at North and Northwest on charges of driving with a revoked registration, driving an uninsured motor vehicle and not wearing a seatbelt. He was released on bond. Police report information is provided by local police departments. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions on a given day, and people charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
