Here are the top three stories today in Charleston: A North Charleston nonprofit focused on providing affordable housing has been given a $1 million grant. The funds are being provided to Metanoia by Cummins Inc. to purchase lots and repair existing structures in the southern area of North Charleston. The grant was awarded to Metanoia for its strong performance record in expanding affordable housing. (Charleston Post Courier)The North Charleston Police Department, North Charleston Fire Department, and the Charleston County EMS Department recovered five unresponsive children from a vehicle on Thursday morning. The children were rushed to a local hospital in stable condition. The departments are currently investigating the incident; however, early information points to a vehicle malfunction poisoning the children with dangerous levels of carbon monoxide and hydrogen cyanide. (Live 5 News WCSC)North Charleston nonprofits hosted a gun safety awareness event on Thursday. The event was meant to celebrate the end of the 2021-2022 school year while kicking off gun violence awareness month. Participants enjoyed local food, jump castles, music, and snow cones. The nonprofit group plans to hold similar events throughout the summer months to keep the community engaged.
