On Wednesday, June 1st, 2022 at approximately 2:40PM, Imperial Beach deputies responded to Veteran's Park at 1085 8th Street for a call of an active fight between multiple juveniles. The fight escalated with a report of one juvenile getting stabbed in the abdomen. Upon arrival, on scene deputies found a 16 y/o male juvenile with a stab wound to the lower abdomen area and numerous other juveniles lingering around while others fled. Immediate medical treatment was rendered to the victim by deputies using blood clotting gauze. Once paramedics arrived, the juvenile victim was transported to UCSD Hospital to undergo emergency surgery. Minutes after the incident, the mother of the alleged suspect called Sheriff's dispatch to state that her son was involved in the incident and provided their location. After deputies arrived, the suspect admitted to stabbing the victim with a knife in self-defense, despite preliminary evidence to the contrary. Two knives were seized from the residence. The juvenile suspect was arrested for 245(a)(1) PC – Assault with a Deadly Weapon and booked into Juvenile Hall.
The victim underwent surgery, was placed in stable condition and is expected to survive his injuries. Detectives are continuing the investigation.
