OAK PARK, MI — A well-known Oakland County jeweler whose ostentatious custom diamonds and chains are a favorite for music artists was shot dead near his store Wednesday, authorities said.
Daniel "Hutch" Hutchinson, 47, of Pleasant Ridge, was identified by the Oak Park Public Safety Department as the man shot repeatedly as he sat in his vehicle on the 21,000 block of Greenfield Road. His store, Hutch's Jewelry, is on the 23,000 block of the road.
Officers' attempted to revive Hutchinson. He died of his injuries at a hospital, the Oak Park Department of Public Safety said in a news release obtained by Patch.
The shooter approached Hutchinson as he left his store, authorities said. Details on the shooter weren't immediately released.
The store's Instagram page featured large medallions and pendants, including recent custom jewelry for rappers Babytron, a native of Ypsilanti, Michigan; Trottadolla, from South Bend, Indiana; Hustlin Jo and Icewear Vezzo.
In an Instagram story, Icewear Vezzo, a Detroit native whose real name is Chivez Smith,wrote "Fly high HUTCH you was a real solid one."
