GEORGIA — A Georgia deputy is facing charges following accusations he raped a woman while on duty and in uniform, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Walker County Sheriff's Office Deputy Jerry Glover, 81, of Rock Spring has been charged with rape, violation of oath of office and false imprisonment. On May 11, 2022, GBI officials said the Lafayette Police Department requested their assistance to look into a reported rape of a woman by a Walker County deputy. According to the GBI, an investigation revealed that Glover had sex with a woman without her consent while on duty and in uniform. "As I was briefed on the investigation, it was extremely disappointing to hear the evidence that was being told to me, and that's when I decided last week that it reached the level that he had to be terminated," Sheriff Steve Wilson told the AJC. Wilson told the newspaper that Glover worked for the sheriff's office's court services division providing courtroom security and serving civil process. Glover's career in law enforcement spans more than 50 years, starting first with the Atlanta Police Department in 1967. In a news release, Sheriff Wilson confirmed he fired Glover from his job on Monday. According to the sheriff's office, he's being housed at the Walker County jail. Glover was denied bond at his first appearance hearing Thursday morning and will appear in Walker County Superior Court on June 9, 2022 for a bond hearing.
