These personal and inspiring experiences of grade school, high school, college, other amateur and even pro athletes allow all of us to reflect a little more on what is important in life. ~ James C. That’s what the students at San Miguel Academy in Newburgh have been doing for the lucky 13 years. A Catholic school for inner-city children, the mission at Sam Miguel is to prepare students for further education and life. Rowing is a huge part of that mission. Half of the 64 students are engaged in the program. The students work hard at their tasks and in the rowing program. They see significant improvement in their grades and the program has advanced through competition on a regional and possibly now a national level. The experiences provide new challenges for the students and they graduate to attend competitive schools, advancing scholastically in high school and college and taking on new adventures.
