i'm left in the dark wondering? scratching my head

How is it that any metal, punk, rock and alternative bands can quickly assemble a music group and no sooner than a couple of months go by and play out compared to an "old school" music group that plays "dance music" and no one wants to join or with those members. (i'm scratching my head) i'm left in the dark wondering? please, someone educate me!
