FANs “Lens on Learning” Series…
Identifying and Using Native Plants
June 18, 2022, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Juniper Room, Crooked River Ranch, 5195 SW Clubhouse Dr.
Marilynne Keyser, author of Common Native Plants of the Deschutes Canyon Area, will focus on the beauty and uniqueness of the sagebrush plateau ecosystem and help you to identify the native plants you encounter on your walks around the neighborhood or your hikes into canyon country. She will highlight the size and bloom time of native species and provide suggestions for what would work best in your own native landscape. Her talk will cover native shrubs and bunch grasses as well as wildflowers.
A little bit of botanical knowledge can help in identifying plants, so you can expect a short lesson on taxonomy (why scientific names are so important) and the parts of a flower (key to differentiating flowers that look similar). Registration is required, free for FANs members and $3.00 donation for non-members (at the door).
Need to practice what you are learning? Then spend an hour at the CRR Native Interpretive Garden or join Marilynne on one of her June wildflower hikes!
Marilynne's latest book, co-authored with Penny Radtke, Common Weeds of the Deschutes Canyon Area, will be available to purchase, $12.00 for FANs members, $15.00 for non-members.
Marilynne's newly revised and expanded Common Native Plants of the Deschutes Canyon Area is in the final stages of production. It will not yet be ready by the time of this program, but soon after!
