Description
VIENNA, VA — Amid an increase in stop sign violations, Vienna Police are starting an enforcement campaign.
Officers will be out to enforce traffic laws with a focus on stop sign violations, according to the police department. Drivers are reminded to come to a full stop at stop signs as well as solid or flashing red lights before entering a crosswalk, intersection or beyond a stop line.
Drivers who are issued a stop sign or red light violation ticket can receive a fine and three demerit points assessed to their driving record. The police department says in some cases, a stop sign violation may be issued as reckless driving.
In Fairfax County, a failure to stop at a stop sign violation has a $97 fine, while a failure to obey a traffic light offense has a $167 fine.
