PEABODY, MA — The South Branch Library in Peabody will host a series of summer programming to keep children active, learning and entertained while they are out of school. Programming begins on June 18 and runs through August. The Camping Storytime summer reading program begins on June 18 at 6:30 p.m. as students enjoy snacks and nature sounds while Miss Betsy reads stories "under the stars" and around the "campfire." This program is suitable for children ages 5 to 10. A drop-in crafts program will begin on July 9 and run on July 23, Aug. 6 and Aug. 20 for children ages 5 to 12. Families can pick up craft kits to take home or spend those Saturday mornings working on crafts together at the library. All materials and kits are provided while supplies last. Saturdays will also be the time for LEGO building for children 5 to 12. That program runs from 10 a.m. to noon on June 18, June 30 and Aug. 13. Completed projects will be put on display at the library. Family movie nights will begin on June 23 with additional showings on July 28 and on Aug. 25 popcorn will be provided. An ice cream picnic will take place to wrap up the summer reading season in the library parking lot on Aug. 23 at 6:30 p.m. There will be Bingo for prizes as well as music. All ages are welcome. Registration for events where necessary can be done here. (Scott Souza is a Patch field editor covering Beverly, Danvers, Marblehead, Peabody, Salem and Swampscott.
