Tour and introduction of ECSU’s facilities/programs
Overview of aviation history (especially in NC) and African American contributions to the industry
Teach the science of flight
Introduce different career paths in aviation from professionals (pilots, drone pilots, air traffic
controllers, airport management, military aviation careers, etc.)
Provide flight and air traffic control simulations
Provide scholarship and grant information
Flight display/walkthrough of different types of aircraft
Provide breakfast/lunch for attendees
Target group will be 200-500 9th-12th grade/Foster Care/At Risk Teenagers from surrounding areas
THE PLAN
To be held at Elizabeth City State University during drone facility groundbreaking summer 2022
Introduction including all participants with speaker (ECSU person and motivational/mindset speaker)
Breakfast
Morning small group breakout sessions (20-30 kids per group by age)
Lunch from local vendors and/or African American vendors in the area and a speaker
Afternoon small group breakout sessions (20-30 kids per group by age)
Closing Ceremony with speaker
Groups will be: Aviation History/African American Pioneers, How to become a/meet a
pilot(s)/simulators, Tour/Introduction of ECSU’s facilities/aviation programs, Meet military aviation
professionals, How to become an/meet the air traffic controller/Simulator, Science of flight (How
planes/helicopters fly), UAS/Simulator (Future of flight), Airport Management/Meet an airport
manager, Scholarships and Grants, Aircraft tour/possible flight display
