We are seeking industry input and ideas on how the site may best serve the needs of research and industry.
The City of Norfolk, in collaboration with Old Dominion University’s OpenSeas Technology Innovation Hub and the Virginia Institute for Spaceflight & Autonomy @ ODU, is upgrading the Willoughby boat ramp to include a test site for unmanned and autonomous vehicles (UxS). The Willoughby UxS Test Site (WUTS) will assist innovators, researchers, and commercial developers to experiment on, test, evaluate, and certify their solutions, by providing a facility to launch and conduct field maintenance on their vehicles. The test site will include access to ramps and lifts for launching vehicles, a covered work area for conducting field maintenance, assistance in obtaining permits for those operations requiring additional permissions, and assistance in accessing certification organizations.
We invite you to join us to discuss the new facility and what features/capabilities would be of value to your organizations as you work to advance the state of the art in Hampton Roads and beyond.
