Man Caught Burglarizing Home In Meriden: Police

MERIDEN, CT — A man was arrested after police said he was caught burglarizing a home Wednesday night in Meriden. Police received a call from a Park Street resident around 9:20 p.m. reporting that their Ring camera alerted them to a suspicious man walking to the back of their home. The resident said that no one should have been home at the time, according to police. The alarm company then called with multiple activations at the home, according to police. Police said officers arrived and set up a perimeter around the home. Officers saw a broken side window and a man walking around the inside of the home, police said. About 25 minutes later, the suspect – identified as Wayne Vargas-Dejesus – walked out of the back of the home and was arrested without incident, according to police. Police said the house was cleared by officers and no other suspects were found. The entire home had been ransacked, according to police. Vargas-Dejesus, 32, was arrested on charges of first-degree burglary, carrying and sale of a dangerous weapon, possession of burglar tools, first-degree criminal trespass, second-degree criminal mischief, and sixth-degree larceny. He was held in lieu of a $75,000 bond.
