HAMDEN, CT — A former teacher at Booker T. Washington Academy in Hamden is accused of sexually assaulting a student, according to police. Hamden police launched an investigation on Nov. 10, 2021 after receiving a report of inappropriate text messages sent between a teacher and a group of students, who were 12 to 13-years old, at Booker T. Washington Academy at 306 Circular Avenue, according to Detective Sean J. Dolan. Booker T. Washington Academy is a charter school with facilities in New Haven and Hamden. Dolan said the teacher was identified as Dominique Maynard, 27, of New Haven. Detective Jay Bunnell conducted an extensive investigation that found that Maynard sent inappropriate text messages to a group of students, including a 13-year-old male student, according to Dolan. "The investigation also determined that Maynard engaged in sexual intercourse with the 13-year-old student, on more than one occasion, at the school," Dolan wrote in a news release. Maynard was arrested Tuesday and charged with four counts of second-degree sexual assault and four counts of risk of injury to a minor. She was held in lieu of a $100,000 bond with a court date of June 3.
