Cos Cob Bank Robbery Suspect Turns Himself In: Greenwich Police

GREENWICH, CT — The man wanted in connection with a robbery at M&T Bank in Cos Cob last month turned himself into police on Thursday, according to an announcement from the Greenwich Police Department. Joseph C. Heffner, 42, of Stamford, surrendered to Greenwich police at 11 a.m. Thursday after learning there was a warrant out for his arrest. Police released a flyer with Heffner's photo on Wednesday after they obtained the warrant. Heffner is charged with first-degree robbery and fourth-degree larceny, and is being held on a $500,000 bond. At approximately 10:15 a.m. on May 11, police said they received a report of a robbery at the M&T Bank on the Post Road in Cos Cob. Police said Heffner demanded money from the teller, and made off with less than $5,000 "[Police] Chief James Heavey commended the officers and detectives who worked so diligently on this case to bring it to a successful conclusion," the department said in a news release. According to Hearst, Heffner was arrested previously in Greenwich in 2011 and charged with larceny.
