DARIEN, CT — The Darien Chamber of Commerce, on behalf of the Darien Chamber Charitable Foundation, recently announced scholarship recipients for 2022. Every chamber member and their employees are eligible for merit-based college scholarships. This year's Merit Scholarship Award ecipients are Lily Donzeiser and Sydney Roland. Donzeiser's mother is a real estate agent at Compass, and Roland's mother is a sales associate at Everything Is Rose Boutique. Both received $2,000 awards, which will go towards their college tuition. Donzeiser, a Darien High School senior, is The Penny Glassmeyer STEM Scholarship awardee This year, the Darien Chamber renamed the scholarship in honor of Penny Glassmeyer for her devotion to the town of Darien and long-standing support of the Chamber of Commerce's scholarship program. In the fall, Donzeiser will be attending UC Berkeley and majoring in environmental sciences, specifically in the areas of ecology and climate change. Roland is also a DHS senior, and the General Education Scholarship awardee. She'll be attending the School of the Art institute of Chicago in the fall. "I have loved all four years at DHS and enjoyed taking a plethora of their art classes - everything from art foundations to mural painting, to AP art and design," she said in a news release. High school seniors, college students or graduate students from all communities who either work or have a relative that works for a member of the Darien Chamber may apply for either of the two merit-based Chamber scholarships. The DCCF also funds scholarships to four Darien High School students annually. This year's winners are William Collins, Dru Palmer, Osaru Uwa-Omede and Owen Wagner. The DCCF serves as the Chamber's fundraising arm, a separate 501(c)3 set up to support and facilitate programs that enrich the quality of life in Darien. Major initiatives include the Darien Chamber College Scholarship Program and the Darien Chamber Holiday Lights Program, which enables the DCCF to decorate Darien's lamp posts during the holiday season.
