POINT PLEASANT BEACH, NJ — Police officers in Point Pleasant Beach are now wearing body cameras while on duty in the borough. The police department announced the cameras had been added as of Friday, the result of The addition of the body cameras is the result of the directive issued by the Office of the Attorney General in 2021 requiring police officers throughout New Jersey be equipped with the cameras. It applies to officers assigned to tactical teams, proactive enforcement teams, canine units, or those with duties that include regular interaction with the public (officers at the front desk of a police precinct, for example). The state provided funding for the cameras. Point Pleasant Beach officers will typically wear their cameras in the middle to upper part of their chests, the department said. The directive has the broad requirement that the cameras be activated in almost all police-citizen encounters and that supervisors review the recordings to improve officer performance.
