Join Gabriella Corya & Paige Beltowski for a behind the scenes look into sewing for the film industry! This will be a presentation and round table discussion on launching a career in costuming. Both speakers are part of the IATSE 705 motion picture costumers union and have worked on everything from super hero films to period dramas. This class will go over the following topics: PREPARING FOR JOBS -what should you have in your kit? -What skills do I need to confidently start a new job? -how to find work & connect to others in your field -How to budget & price out work as a freelancer JOINING THE UNION -pay rates, benefits, and protections -how to get your hours -what to expect on set -studios vs costume houses vs indie work This class will be a one hour info session with an hour Q&A discussion. By the end of the class you will have the info you need to decide if the film industry is for you, as well as information on other ways to make a living as a freelance seamstress. We will go over topics to help you confidently make decisions about pay rates, hours, taxes, and budgeting, and also give you a basic understanding of the process of joining the union and the benefits that come along with it.
