Caregivers are invited to attend a tour of Charlie's House Safety Demonstration House, the only one of its kind in the nation. The house serves as a resource for families, medical professionals and community organizations seeking information on safety and injury prevention. The mission, to prevent accidents and injuries to children in and around the home, is fulfilled through increased awareness, public education, and distribution of safety devices. Participants will learn about child proofing their home by going on a room-by-room tour of a typical home. Second, in addition to the tour, they will also receive a Power Point presentation about Charlie's House, seasonal safety and the programs that Charlie's House provides as an organization. Third, caregivers will be able to walk through a tour of a Fire Safety Trailer, which will teach them what to do in case of a fire in their home or child care setting. The interactive trailer will light up, smoke and encourage participants to "put out a fire" and how to escape in case of a fire. The tools and resources that the caregivers receive can be shared with the families they serve.
Two Missouri clock hours are provided. Educare funding is provided by the MO Department of Elementary & Secondary Education, Office of Childhood. KS providers are welcome to attend but KS clock hours are not provided.
