WEST CHESTER — Open-Air Market on Gay Street has been postponed indefinitely due to a delay in obtaining local control of Gay Street, which is owned by PennDOT.
The hope was that the Open-Air Market would have started on Memorial Day weekend.
Without the necessary permits, however, the borough was unable shut the street down.
The borough has been pursuing a path of getting a special events application approved by PennDOT and the Federal Highway Administration , similar to what has been done the last two years.
PennDOT has approved the application, and sent it to the federal agency.
Once the administration grants approval, the borough will be able to close the road to provide outdoor dining without traffic.
Borough officials are hopeful that final approvals will be given shortly.
As soon as the approvals are granted, cfficials said they are ready to implement a weekend closure on Gay Street from Friday morning to Monday morning.
