WARRINGTON, PA — A person in distress who barricaded themselves in a residence was taken to a hospital after police said they were armed and wanted to harm themselves, according to Warrington Township Police.
Police were called to Evening Walk Drive in the Somerset Walk Development at about 8 a.m. Thursday for an armed person who reportedly wanted to hurt themselves.
Police said the person was alone in a residence and at no time appeared to pose a threat to others.
After calling in a regional SWAT team and securing the area, police spoke with the person and after seven hours of negotiation were able to get the person out and into custody safely.
The person was taken to a medical facility for emergency mental health treatment, police said.
Assisting police at the scene were the South Central Emergency Response Team, the Lenape Valley Mobile Crisis Unit, and mental health co-responders from Tullytown Borough.
Warrington Police Chief Daniel Friel thanked all the first responders at the scene and crisis support member for their help in achieving a peaceful outcome.
"The family is very grateful," police said.
