Forest Preserve Hosts National Trails Day Cleanup On Saturday, June 4

The Forest Preserve District of Will County is hosting a District-wide, self-led litter cleanup event on Saturday, June 4, in honor of the 30th anniversary of National Trails Day. If you would like to participate in the Forest Preserve's cleanup event, please complete an online National Trails Day registration form for each person who will be giving back on National Trails Day. The Forest Preserve will be giving the following locations a limited set of buckets, grabbers and vests that participants can borrow: Monee Reservoir Visitor Center, Monee Township, 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Lake Renwick Heron Rookery Visitor Center, Plainfield, 9-11 a.m. Four Rivers Environmental Educational Center, Channahon, 10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Isle a la Cache Museum, Romeoville, 10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Plum Creek Nature Center, Crete Township, 10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Even if one of these locations is not convenient for you, feel free to clean up a trail or forest preserve near you any time from sunrise to sunset. But please fill out the online registration form if you do so. National Trails Day is celebrating its 30th anniversary and organizations around the country will be hosting public events for thousands of hikers, bikers, rowers, horseback riders, trail clubs, federal and local agencies, land trusts, and businesses who will advocate for, maintain, and clean up public lands and trails. "With your help, we can make a direct impact on the health and beauty of our local forest preserves," said Emily Kenny, the Forest Preserve's volunteer services supervisor. "From the casually discarded plastic bottle to intentionally dumped construction waste, every bit of trash left in the forest preserves hurts our natural areas and the plants and animals that depend on them."
