EVERGREEN PARK, IL — Evergreen Park Community High School students and staff raised funds to purchase a small teddy bear for each of the students and staff at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Tex., where 19 children and 2 teachers died in a mass shooting.
On Wednesday, 701 teddy bears were on their way to Uvalde, Texas, as well as a 6-foot tall teddy bear who can remain in the school for all to enjoy.
Students and staff wrote heartfelt notes on posters in a show of support for the grieving families and community.
"Like you, I can't imagine the shock, fear, grief, and loss that the community of Uvalde is experiencing," EPCHS Fine Arts Chair and activities director Amy Kazin said, who organized the act of kindness. "It is difficult to know what to do in times of horrible tragedy like this, but it is our hope that something as small as a 'bear hug' can make a difference."
"A small gesture like this might bring just a moment of joy or surprise during the dark days ahead."
