NEW YORK, NY — While much of the focus for the gubernatorial race has been on the Democrats and Kathy Hochul seeking her first full term, there is a Republican primary as well later this month. While four people are campaigning, it appears to be between Congressman Lee Zeldin and Andrew Giuliani, who joined me on the Thursday edition of "Patch AM." Giuliani, who spent time as an advisor to President Trump, considers the former commander-in-chief and his father, Rudy Giuliani, as the politicians from whom he learned the most. "I don't like to shy away from that," Giuliani said. "It's important to be genuine to voters and tell them exactly what you came for. I know some New Yorkers don't like the fact that I worked for President Trump, but I'd rather be honest with them." A recent Zogby poll gives Giuliani a five-point lead over Zeldin. "Our campaign has been built specifically on the grassroots," Giuliani said. "Lee got institutional support early from the G.O.P. He was kind of the candidate of the backroom deal in Albany." He said he'll rely on his father's "guidance and leadership," especially in crafting crime prevention policies. There is much more with Giuliani in the full "Patch AM" interview below.
