Description
I am putting out the feelers on my 4 year old standard poodle, as my life has changed drastically, and he needs considerable care. He is turning 5 in September, is neutered, up to date on shots, and microchipped. This dog can chill like no one's business, but he is also game to go hiking with you, long walks, etc. He has a guard dog sort of personality, and will patrol your yard. He is dog selective, but tends to get along best with very laid back dogs, and females. Does great around cats, and has been around livestock. BUT he has some significant drawbacks. He is an absolute jerk to strangers. He will bark, growl, even lunge, but has never bitten. If someone is confident around dogs, and knows to basically ignore him, he calms pretty quickly. His other issue is that he has Addison's disease. This basically means he is on daily Prednisone (costs about $5 per month), and an injection of Zycortal every 32 days (costs about $85 per dose). He gets stressed out easily, and when he does you just give him a bit of extra prednisone. The condition also means visits to renew his prescriptions, and blood tests every 4-6 months to make sure the meds are working correctly. This dog, if you can, is very much worth it. He will protect you, your home, your family, and he will make you laugh. He has learned that if he sits in front of you and farts or burps, that it will get your attention. All I did was laugh once, and he started doing it often. He knows when you're upset, and will be right there trying to comfort you. If there wasn't so much going on in my life, I would not be giving him up. I have had him since he was a pup. He will come with everything. Collar, leash, harness, treats, food, a Kong, etc. Would be perfect for a retired couple on a small acreage. The conditions would be: vet reference, home visit, lots of updates, and the chance to take him back if you ever need to give him up. I would board him for you for no charge when you go on vacation, give his injections (just bring meds and the needle), even do his nail & sanitary trims. He is a poodle, so lots of grooming is needed. There will be a rehoming fee. If you're interested, reach out, and we can discuss this further.
